Residential Complex Kozhevennaya (Project)

The project is a residential complex consisting of five 10-storey buildings and one 5-storey building, which are located along a common boulevard. The axis of the complex — the boulevard — starts from Kozhevennaya Line and ends with a public space with the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God «Miluyuschaya» in the Galley Harbor of architects Vasily Kosyakov and Dmitry Prussak (1889-1898).

The object is located in the historical part of the Vasilievsky Island, which was formed in the 18^th-20^th centuries as an industrial zone of the city. The architectural environment has a diverse architectural and historical context and is represented by examples of brick industrial architecture of the 19^th century, the constructivism era of the 1920-1930’s, as well as buildings of the Soviet post-war period.

The architectural image of the projected object is a continuation of functional and planning solutions and develops a modern reading of the image of residential quarters of the period of constructivism and functionalism.

Facades of apartment buildings are united into a complex of 5 «blocks» with different solutions. The facade of the 10-storey building 4, located in a landscaped avant-zone of the quarter near Kozhevennaya Line, visually connected to the public art space of Sevkabel Port, is made using a brick in the ventfacade system.

Building 3, located in the northeastern part, forms a public space, overlooking the temple and the administrative building. The composition of the facades of the five-storey building 3 is dictated by the decision to create an internal pedestrian square, which is accompanied by a unique architectural monument that closes the area.

Thus, 5 variants of facade characteristics make it possible for a large complex to have different visual contexts, while remaining a single and integral object.
