It is
planned to build a multifunctional residential complex for 1700 people and a
hotel, as well as to recreate two historical objects on the territory of the
former "Lenexpo" town on Vasilievsky Island.
The first
one is the wooden church of the Holy Trinity, destroyed during the piercing of
Nalichnaya Street in Soviet times. Back in the early XVIII century, in order to
meet the spiritual needs of the employees of the galley squadron, which was
then located near the present-day Kalinkin Bridge, Peter the Great authorized
the construction of a portable canvas church ("so that it could be taken
with us on voyages and carried from place to place") in the name of the Holy
Life-Giving Trinity. It was consecrated in 1722. It was made in Moscow and
brought to a newly built St. Petersburg. For almost three years the church was
located at the Kalinkin Bridge, then with the construction of a harbor for
rowing ships on Vasilievsky Island in February 1725, it was moved to the
Galernaya Harbor. In 1733 a wooden church was built, and all the church
property was moved there from the former temporary church. In 1792, by the
order of Catherine II, the dilapidated church was completely rebuilt according
to the project of architect Jacob Perren and consecrated in early December
1792. The building was a simple long wooden house with a one- storey bell tower
on the west side. The Trinity Church was often visited by the Russian military
commander Alexander Suvorov. In commemoration of this, his grandson gave the
church the icon of Christ the Savior that accompanied Suvorov on his campaigns,
which has since been considered one of the treasured relics of the church. The

The second
object is the famous building with a tower by architect David Buryshkin
(1947-1949), which was dismantled in 2022. The reconstructed administrative
building of the Lenexpo exhibition center will be located along Nalichnaya
Street on the axis of Srednegavansky Avenue. According to the project, it will
accommodate an elementary school and a kindergarten. In addition, the area will
have a publicly accessible embankment and boulevard. "There will be a
publicly accessible promenade, sport areas, gardening, streetlights, public
benches. Probably there will also be ice cream stalls and skateboard rental
stations. As a part of the built-in premises of the residential complex there
is going to be a public fitness center", - said Evgeny Gerasimov, Honored
Architect of the Russian Federation, head of the architectural studio
"Evgeny Gerasimov and Partners". The torpedo boat "Komsomolets"
(naval memorial dedicated to heroic sailors of the Baltic Fleet), which was
installed there in 1973, will remain in its place, according to the project.
