Description
A competitive design, 2nd place
"Area B" of the Moscow Kremlin
Museums, subject to a competitive design, is to occupy the inner yard of the Middle
Trading Rows, a cultural heritage object, which fact defined the layout concept
of the facility. The façades are to bear a contemporary style, without copying the
historical style of the main reconstructed «Area A». Versions of façade design are
provided that include references to the architecture of the times when Moscow
Kremlin was built. For instance, one of the versions proposed creates an association
to the appearance of the market «trading rows». The plan is to create a system of
display windows at the lower level, these display windows accommodating multimedia
screens with information on the museum permanent exhibition and the history of
Kremlin. Other project versions are similar to that one as to the layout but show
different approaches to the façades, proposing to create an elaborated structure
of windows and provoke an image of defensive walls of ancient Russian monasteries.
Thus, according to this project, the inner yard is to become an open-air extension
of the museum permanent exhibition. The architecture of the complex is aimed at
creating an integral space which would provide for a circular path and fascinate
the visitor with the unique museum exhibition.
