It has been the fourth time for the Biennale of Modern Architecture to take place in Saint-Petersburg for the purpose of presenting the projects and buildings devised and constructed by local architects over the past two years.
This year's exhibition includes new city constructions, both residential and those aimed to serve for public purposes, newly-restored and reconstructed buildings as well as interior and city design. Members of Architectural Workshops' Union as well as those of the Architects' and Engineers' Guild are found among the participants this year. The educational agenda offers numerous lectures given by leading architects from Russia, Holland, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Lithuania. Also, it has been the courtesy of the Schusev State Museum of Architecture to agree to share some of its archive materials, filmed years ago, with the view to reveal them to general public.
The exhibition's retrospective part is dedicated to Igor Javein (1903-1980), his life and architectural heritage in transportation infrastructure construction, both theory and practice.
The ‘Architecture Annual,' its presentation being an essential part of the opening ceremony, covers those projects and constructions that, from professional point of view, are most worthy of notice as created by the architects of Saint-Petersburg in 2011-2012.
