The multifunctional center is planned in the
historical part of Nizhny Novgorod, in a picturesque bend of the Oka River, on
the site of the former flour mill grain elevator with almost a century and a
half history. All preserved historical buildings will be a part of a new
complex with a high-rise dominating the elevator towers.
On the south side, the site is surrounded by a
two-level metrobridge, descending from Dyatlov Hills, built at the beginning of
the 21st century. The old Romodanovsky station is located under its pillars.
The task of our workshop was to create a new
functional dominant on the place where the historical and modern scale of the
city is combined.
The central idea was to connect two different towers –
one for residential purpose and the other for office purpose – with a
horizontal block of fitness center on the top. In the stylobat part there are
vestibule areas and parking. Above the residential tower there is a restaurant
overlooking the confluence of the Oka and Volga rivers, the Kremlin and the
general panorama of the city. Hanging gardens and a buffet will be located on
the roof of the office part.
Paying tribute to the history of the place, the modern
complex will actively use national motives in the architecture of facades. The
residential tower, having a complex terraced structure in the view part, will
be lined with architectural concrete with radius elements and ornamental
surface pattern, referring to white-stone Russian architecture. The office
tower, made in red brick, is associated with the industrial memory of the place
and walls of the Kremlin. The glass area of the fitness club is floating in the
air. Its giant textured mediafasad, glowing in all directions, will become a
new modern interactive urban landmark.
