A Residential Building at 133–137 Nevsky prospect

A modern seven-storeys residential building with retail and office spaces has been designed to be built at a site near Alexander Nevsky square. The composition of the building was to allow for a natural integration of its architectural image into the existent environment of historical buildings at the Nevsky prospect. The front façade forms the avenue frontage and inevitably becomes a part of it. The building volume preserves the proportions of the surroundings and is in tune with the historical architectural canons of the main avenue of the city. The project design takes into account the nearby residential house designed by A. Lishnevsky in 1936 (141 Nevsky prospect). The architecture of the building creates a sophisticated conceptual field due to its deep connections to the historical context and multiple references to architectural styles and eras of the past. The building style is so-called modified avantgarde. The three-part arrangement comprises an ensemble of two symmetrically located parts with galleries and two grand archways joined by a penthouse «base» on top, connected by a staircase and elevator section.

The staircase and elevator section with its paned galleries serves as the central compositional symmetry axis of the building, allowing to arrange a grand entrance from the Nevsky prospect. The building has seven storeys above the ground; the ground floor accommodates retail shops, the first floor is an office floor, in floors 2 to 5 there are apartments of various comfort levels, and the 6th floor is dedicated to penthouses. 

A fine articulation of vertical and horizontal spaces underlies the façades composition. Upper storeys are separated with a cornice. At the centre of each symmetrical façade part there is a modernist style bay-window. Above the arch span, a metal supporting structure is exposed to complete the contemporary, tech image of the building. The façades finish makes use of natural stone of various textures, the walls have mainly been covered with porcelain granite. Decorative elements have been made of aluminium composite.
